CERTAIN Showcases Compliance-by-Design at the ETSI Conference on AI & Data
CERTAIN recently participated in the ETSI Conference on AI & Data in France, bringing its compliance-by-design approach to the forefront of discussions on trustworthy and regulation-ready Artificial Intelligence.
During the event, the CERTAIN team delivered a live demonstration illustrating how regulatory requirements can be embedded directly into the AI lifecycle. The demo provided participants with a hands-on perspective on how evolving EU regulations can be operationalised through technical mechanisms, transforming abstract legal obligations into concrete, machine-interpretable implementation steps.
Strong Interest in Compliance and Trust
The conference provided an excellent platform to increase visibility of the CERTAIN project and its objectives. Throughout the event, the team engaged in valuable discussions with representatives from industry, governmental bodies, and the research community.
Compliance and trust, particularly in relation to data governance, emerged as central topics of interest among participants. Many attendees were keen to understand how organisations can proactively address regulatory requirements while maintaining innovation and operational efficiency.
Spotlight on the Semantic MLOps Engine
The live demonstration sparked particular interest in CERTAIN’s Semantic MLOps Engine. Participants were especially curious about how the project generates, structures, and manages metadata linked to data-related compliance requirements.
A recurring theme in discussions was the interconnection between legal and technical components. Attendees showed strong interest in how CERTAIN maps legal requirements to technical specifications, enabling traceability and transparency across the AI lifecycle.
Questions also arose regarding the regulatory scope of the project, specifically whether CERTAIN focuses exclusively on EU legislation or also considers international regulatory frameworks. These exchanges highlighted the growing global relevance of compliance-by-design approaches in AI governance.
Exploring Standards and Sectoral Applications
The conference also offered an opportunity to review relevant ETSI standards and explore how standardisation frameworks could align with and complement CERTAIN’s work.
In addition, several participants expressed interest in potential applications within the telecommunications sector. While CERTAIN does not currently include a dedicated telecom pilot, discussions explored how the project’s approach could be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the telecommunications community.
By participating in the ETSI Conference on AI & Data, CERTAIN reinforced its position within the European AI and standardisation ecosystem, demonstrating how compliance-by-design can help build trustworthy, transparent, and regulation-ready AI systems.
