Last week, the CERTAIN project proudly participated in AIRoV 2025 – the Austrian Symposium on AI and Vision, co-organized by ASAI (Austrian Society for Artificial Intelligence) and OAGM (Austrian Association for Pattern Recognition). The symposium brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and emerging regulatory frameworks.
CERTAIN at the CERT-AI Workshop
As part of the CERT-AI Workshop on AI Compliance Assessment, Fairness, and Regulations, we presented our paper:
📝 “Towards a Framework for Supporting the Ethical and Regulatory Compliance Assessment of AI Systems”
Our contribution focused on the urgent need for structured and transparent approaches to assess whether AI systems meet ethical and legal requirements. The proposed framework aims to support developers, regulators, and other stakeholders in navigating complex obligations — ensuring that AI systems are not only innovative, but also trustworthy, fair, and aligned with societal values.
The presentation prompted constructive dialogue around how compliance assessment can act as a bridge between technical development and responsible governance.
Keynote Highlight
We were also honored to attend the keynote by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Forgó (University of Vienna), titled:
🎤 “Europe as Standard Setter? Regulatory Approaches to Data, Cloud, AI and All the Other Glitter”
Dr. Forgó’s talk offered a timely and insightful perspective on Europe’s evolving role in global tech regulation, particularly in the context of the EU AI Act and related digital policy initiatives
We’re grateful to the organizers of AIRoV 2025 for the opportunity to present our work and connect with the broader AI research and policy community.
As the conversation around AI governance continues to grow, CERTAIN remains committed to developing robust methods for ethical and regulatory compliance assessment in AI. More updates and resources coming soon!
