What is your organization’s role in the project? What unique contribution does it bring to the team?
IDEMIA Public Security is the project coordinator and leads Pilot 1 on biometrics. In CERTAIN, we focus on advancing our biometric solutions to ensure they meet EU regulations, including the AI Act. This work covers critical areas such as privacy, fairness, and reducing power consumption. IDEMIA Public Security will collaborate closely with IDIAP, which serves as an independent evaluation body for Pilot 1, ensuring objective assessments. Our extensive experience in regulated biometric deployments uniquely positions us to drive both technological excellence and regulatory compliance within the project.
How do you think CERTAIN will contribute to the Artificial Intelligence landscape in Europe?
CERTAIN will play a vital role in helping all actors in the AI value chain — from data providers to system users — comply with European regulations. But beyond compliance, it will demonstrate that regulation can be a source of value rather than a barrier. Trust is fundamental for AI adoption: technology must be explainable, fair, and respectful of fundamental rights such as privacy.
